iTunes Review

Getting their musical house back in order after attempting a new direction with the glam metal of 2009’s Metamorphosis, Papa Roach put together this collection of five new tracks and nine live cuts that show the band are back to what they do best — and then some. The tough snarl of “Burn,” the melodic and sharp, shifting dynamics of “No Matter What” and the tight-fisted guitars pumping out “Enemy” make for excellent studio cuts that surely whet the appetites of longtime fans hungry for even more new material. But the album shifts towards the concert stage where the band plays meatier versions of Papa Roach standards. “Scars,” “Last Resort,” “…To Be Loved” and “Getting Away With Murder” never sounded tougher. The hip-hop and rap influences are still there in the earliest material, but nearly crushed by the electrical thunderstorm of bass, drums and guitars. Singer Jacoby Shaddix rises to the occasion of the excited audience, by stepping it up himself with spirited vocals that take on an added urgency throughout.
