Don't Miss This Exquisite Collection

Margie Adam is well known for her piano works, but this beautifully crafted collection demonstrates her mastery both as a songwriter and vocalist. The emotional range is extraordinary and profound. "How Many?" captures the unbearable loss and sadness felt during the height of the 80's AIDS crisis, while "Time Goes Slowly By" evokes heartwrenching loneliness like no other song I have ever heard before. Songs like "Deep in the Night" and "Another Place" remind me of writers like Sondheim or Bernstein, with their ability to transport listeners into the artist's vision. The rich, warm and dreamy feel of those songs is unforgettable. Adam's feminist background comes through "Women Who Dare," the powerful "Wake-Up Call," and "Long Haul," which is a classic and merits the Smithsonian recognition bestowed to her famous piece, "We Shall Go Forth." "Los Caldones" is especially relevant today, given climate change threats and the state of the environment. Finally, Adam's intelligent humor shines through songs like "My Mind Is Out to Get Me," which share bits of wisdom that could only come from someone as perceptive and clever as Adam. "Another Place" is an emotional roller coaster ride that you won't want to get off. Once Margie Adam's works resonate with you, you will find yourself returning to CD's of hers like this one again and again. I would especially recommend this CD to fans of Adam's instrumental pieces who may not be as familiar with her more recent vocal pieces, which are extraordinary. As for this CD, each and every song is meticulously and exquisitely crafted and performed. Adam is a beautiful woman inside and out and it shows through her music.

Margie Adam is a singer/songwriter known to the feminist and progressive communities for her blend of passionate love songs, goofball humor, and thoughtful political observation. In the decade spanning the mid-'70s and early '80s, Adam helped to define and expand notions about women's music as an art form, a political force, and an industry. While performing on university campuses, at festivals, in theaters, clubs, and at the conventions of many major women's organizations (NOW, Women in the Law),...
