Editors’ Notes

The Veils are Liam Andrews (son of former XTC keyboardist Barry Andrews) and the musicians he's accumulated over the years from various lineups of the band. Andrews' vocals recall the languid, tortured-beautiful-artiste singers who've been seduced by Bryan Ferry at some point in their careers. "Dancing with the Tornado" turns to a Nick Cave–like guttural rumble, where the avalanche is about to hit. Traces of Ennio Morricone's spaghetti western vibe (a cliché that rings true more often than not among guitarists who enjoy using tremolo) can be heard circling most tracks. The title tune blazes across the widescreen cinematic soundstage with an optimism not often heard once the album gets going. "The Pearl" captures a prettified isolation. "Another Night on Earth" shuffles as if to divert your attention from the real feelings at hand. The "bonus" material features an EP of sessions recorded at Abbey Road Studios.

Amazing album

I've loved the veils since I first heard Vicious Traditions to the end of Mr. Brooks (fit so well). This album is incredible - on my third consecutive listen now. Only thing is, iTunes may have mixed up the song titles as the lyrics seem to point to other titles.

First comment! Woo

A great addition to the already incredible Veils collection

If you are already a Veils fan, then this album will fit right in. If not, then go ahead and check them out all of their music is great! They do, however, give you a digital booklet with the album so you can rename your song titles appropriately.

They've definitely lost something with this album. It feels more like a collection of outtakes, rather than an album. There is no dynamic like previous albums. It is strangely muted and polished. Finn is an amazing songwriter at his best, and a fine songwriter at his worst. This is him at his worst.

As the son of keyboardist Barry Andrews (XTC, Shriekback), the Veils' Finn Andrews knew nothing else except a world full of music and art. He had plans to become a painter as a young lad; however, a move to his grandmother's abode in Devonport, New Zealand (near Auckland) with his mother pointed Andrews in a different direction during his teenage years. He frequented the local folk scene to escape the ho-hum of country living. Once consumed with his father's electronic work from the 1980s, Andrews...
