iTunes Review

If a song like "Look Up" from Daley's debut—with its summery string section and head-nodding beat—transports you to the days of soul maestros like Bill Withers and Al Green, that's no coincidence: Daley counts such artists among his influences, mixing their sound with that of sleek garage and minimalist dubstep. "Be" combines somber piano chords with skittering synths and a mechanical beat, its melancholy vibe couched in the music's robotic grooves. This mix of the synthetic and organic crops up again on tracks like "Time Travel" and "Pass It On," whereas "Love and Affection" stands out with its simple guitar arrangement: all the better to spotlight the singer's confident vocal, which strikes that just-right balance of vulnerability and strength. Such a balance is the mark of a talented soul singer, regardless of the mix of genres and eras in his or her sound.

Black Culture Pillaged?

Psymaj--- I heard those same intolerant comments back in the day when Living Colour, an all black rock band, broke out and made it big. Re-think's all "blurred lines" these days....thank goodness. Wasn't even thinking what color this guy was when I was listening to his music......nor any other artist when I hear their music. Pretty irrelevant.

Finally Out!

I, like many others have waited for Daley to release his first studio album. One of my favorites off this is "pass it on"

Great Voice. Love the Voice!

Don’t get me wrong i Love this guys voice. Great range and all. I’ve been a fan since Alone Together and not because of Marsha either even though i love her too. But the writing and vocals were so great on that song everything just jelled together perfect. But I was a little disappointed with the music production side of the album. I elected better tracks to match alone together or out do it! I feel that Alone together is the best track on the album give or take 1 or 2. But all in all kinda disappointed but I’m still buying just to hear this guys voice. And would definitely go see him live just to hear him sing. I’m giving the album 2 stars only for the production side and expectation but as far as is vocal style def deserves 5 stars

Born: September 29, 1989 in Manchester, England

Genre: R&B/Soul

Years Active: '00s, '10s

Compared to Simply Red's Mick Hucknall due to his Manchester, England origin, red hair, and R&B roots -- the parallels end there, really -- Gareth Daley kicked his career into gear once he submitted a low-key but affecting ballad, "Rainy Day," to the BBC. BBC 1Xtra placed the song, bearing a backing that resembled early-'70s Hi releases and showcased Daley's pained voice, in rotation. The following year, Daley co-wrote and appeared on the Gorillaz single "Doncamatic" and was nominated beside the...
