Vivid Imagery Exquisitely Performed and Elegantly Arranged

Here is an excellent collection of Jazz from a talented big band leader. Michael Waldrop is no newcomer to the game. He paid his dues as a working musician in New York and Chicago before earning his doctorate at North Texas, where he played in the famed One O'Clock Lab Band. He also put in ten years with Jack Cooper's Memphis-based Jazz Orchestra of the Delta, developing the relationship that would lead Cooper to lend his prodigious arranging skills to Waldrop's set of originals for this recording.

One of my favorite tracks on this album is "Inner Truth" which features Mr. Waldrop's ethereal vibraphone and playful drums, while Steve Snyder lays out thought-provoking piano. The imagery is vivid, as is the entire album which is exquisitely performed, and elegantly arranged.
