Editors’ Notes

After spending a decade working his way through the Great American Songbook, Rod Stewart turned to writing his memoir and found that songs were coming to his pen as well. With the help of cowriters (longtime collaborators Jim Cregan and Kevin Savigar, plus Marilyn Manson guitarist John 5), Stewart returns to midtempo mainstream rock 'n' roll with dashes of acoustic folk and '80s pop tucked inside its smooth, shiny veneers. Fact is, Rod Stewart was once considered the great rock 'n' roll voice until he veered toward pop music. Here, Stewart looks back over his career with a sentimentality that rings currently true. He's pledging his love to his third wife, whom he married in 2007 ("She Makes Me Happy," "Can't Stop Me Now," "Finest Woman," "Pure Love"), all with a variety of approaches. "Finest Woman" comes closest to his early-'70s bark. "Beautiful Morning" and "Live the Life" are ebullient. "Brighton Beach" is a trip through the past that lets Stewart pull out all the vocal stops. The deluxe version adds three bonus tracks, including the old folk-blues song "Corrina Corrina."

What a great upbeat rockin CD! No, not your Rod Stewart of 40 years ago, but things do change. Move forward people. Gave it 5 starts after only one listen, so I'm sure it will grow on me even more. Love hearing the madolin again.

Outstanding Album!!

Thank you for a wonderful Rod Stewart album, it has been worth the wait. Love the lyrics, mandolin, harmonica and guitars just like the albums from the early years. A fan since '76 your music is part of my life.

WOW!!!! WOW!!!!! WOW!!!!

Very pleasantly surprised here. Sounds like a mix from Tonight I'm yours and Atlantic Crossing. Very good sounding album to say the least. Can't wait to get the whole album after listing to the snippets.

Over the course of his career, Rod Stewart has had it all. He's been lauded as the finest singer of his generation, he's written several songs that turned into modern standards, he sang with the Faces, who rivaled the Rolling Stones in their prime, he had massive commercial success. Stewart also saw his critical respect slip away during the '80s, when he recorded lightweight pop and although he did record some terrible albums — and he would admit that freely — Stewart will always be remembered...
