Album Review

Pianist Jim Brickman delivers a solidly beautiful collection of his signature primarily instrumental, adult contemporary pop tunes on Escape. His first album for Sony Jazz after leaving his longtime label Windham Hill, Escape is a heartfelt, somewhat melancholy, and always pretty album that more often than not achieves a cinematic quality. In that sense, tracks such as "'Waterfall," "Paradise," and "Barcelona" are sparkling soft rock ballads that bring to mind the best of Dave Grusin. There are also some superb guests here such as on the country anthem "Never Alone" featuring vocalist Sara Evans. Similarly engaging is the dark and intimate "Winter Waltz" showcasing violinist David Klinkenberg. Add in some pristine and tasteful production that makes room for orchestral moments as well as Brickman's skillful keyboard chops, and you have an album that offers much for longtime fans and newcomers alike.

CD Allows you to ESCAPE

Brickman's new album remains true to simple melodies that will draw the listener in and captivate them. The new tracks offer a bit more complex musical shifts than we have seen on earlier CDs showing a continued growth to the music while remaining true to a simple melody. I had the opportunity to meet and talk with Jim a few years ago while and we talked about keeping melodies simple yet not always sounding the same. That was a fear I had pre-listening to this album. However, the subtle musical changes are fresh. I hope you all enjoy this CD. So please buy it, and the moment it starts playing, just sit back, relax and escape.... Thanks Jim for another great CD and for getting these songs out of your "idea drawer" - Jai

Great, just Great!

Jim Brickman never fails to please me! His music is so relaxing and wonderful! I love it! I have all but 2 of his cd's, I just bought Grace!

Jim Brickman at his finest!

Having been a Brickman fan for years now, I have to say this is the best of all the albums he has done. Every song takes you on an emotional ride through the fantasies of your mind. This album is perfect for an evening with friends, a good bottle of wine, and time to unwind. It is the perfect way to start or end any day. Pick up an extra copy or two to give to a friend. I think this is his best album since "By Heart" which I thought was some of his finest work. A must for every cd collection.

Born: November 20, 1961 in Cleveland, OH

Genre: New Age

Years Active: '90s, '00s, '10s

Though classically trained, pianist Jim Brickman prefers to play more pop-flavored, gently lyrical new age music. His unique compositions are emotional and structured, but not rigidly so. A native of Cleveland, Ohio, Brickman enrolled in the Cleveland Institute of Music in his late teens. The focus was on classical music, but Brickman could not escape the lure of mainstream music, and at age 19 began writing commercial jingles. This led him to compose music for such major outfits the Gap, Isuzu,...
