iTunes Review

Nick Waterhouse’s first full-length LP is a dynamite-laced collection of über-cool, hip-grinding R&B. In 2011, the California native released the outstanding EP Is That Clear, which evoked no small amount of adoration from vintage rock enthusiasts around the country. Waterhouse pays meticulous attention to detail, in everything from the vintage analog recording process to his soulful, honey-throated background singers and early-‘60s sartorial tastes. Newer songs—like the sexy “Say I Wanna Know” (the Acura track), “If You Want Trouble,” and the raucous rave-ups “Time’s All Gone,” parts 1 and 2—beautifully complement tracks from the EP (“Some Place,” “I Can Only Give You Everything,” and “Is That Clear”). The resulting lusty set of tunes sounds like a love child of Howlin’ Wolf, Buddy Holly, and The Black Keys. The honking, squawking saxophones, sultry backup vocals, and blues-soaked guitar and organ are driven by Waterhouse’s great sense of timing—he knows precisely how long to pause before blasting a dirty guitar riff or letting a sax belch. It's sublime. Time’s All Gone is the late-night, back-room party you’ve been waiting for.

Retro Cool at its Best! Buy IT!

I love this album and artist! Don't take my word for it sample it now. It's the best retro cool album since Back to Black by Amy Winehouse. He's like a modern day Buddy Holly. And it's not an act, you can feel the honest love of music in every song. The songs are musically tight and raw. With equal parts rock, rhythm & blues, soul & rockabilly in the mix. No auto tune allowed in here. With such an explosion of retro cool artists out there now like the black keys and lana del rey but here's the male solo artist you should sit up and pay attention to. BTW It would have downloaded by the time you finished reading this. You're welcome music lover.

Simple Brilliance

Despite what St. Vitus wrote in his or her dismissal of this artist/album, Waterhouse’s music is by no means vapid or transparent. It’s a musical style that has been around for decades, and Waterhouse manages to breathe new life and a modern cool into it. It’s a wonderful marriage of garage rock and rockabilly swing. Definitely check out If You Want Trouble, and Time’s All Gone 1 & 2.
