Tour de Force of drum set virtuosity

In this album, Dan Weiss has taken an hour long continuous tabla drum solo and tranlated it to the drum set, an unprecedented feat that staggers the listener. Weiss has studied with tabla master Pandit Samir Chatterjee for a number of years, and this album seems something of a culmination of those studies, combined with his own original stamp. The rhythmic recitations are also performed by him, and he is accompanied by an electric guitar player who plays a simple accompanying melody that continues throughout. I highly recommend this to drummers and non-drummers alike, both for its astonishing technical impressiveness and as an example of traditional world music brought to life in a Western context.
