Walk On Water

I was very excited to see that Jane/Issa made her new album available for us Itunes users. I've been waiting for this album for quite a while as I am a huge Siberry/Issa fan, so it's a little hard to be anything but kind about this album. Luckily though I can say it and mean it. She put together a strong album. And with all Siberry/Issa albums comes a wide range of emotion and vision. My favorite track from this album (and one of my favorite Siberry/Issa songs) is definately "Walk On Water", with "Then We Heard A Shout" coming in a close second. The textures and layers are intoxicating and the production is nothing short of the high standards that come with a Siberry album.

It's everything I'd expect from a Jane Sibbery album. As always, Issa finds a way to move me through her music.

A Transcendent & Human Offering

Jane Siberry has reclaimed her old name, left Issa behind and the new disc reflects this. WWSIKW has shades of "When I Was A Boy" and takes Jane back the terrain of being human and negotiating the lovely and complicated world. Many of the stories told are moving and haunting. Jane has such a unique storytelling gift. It's not the easiest listen first time around, but well worth the effort to engage some of the more complex lyrics. Standouts are "This Is Not The Way" (powerful and haunting). "In My Dreams", "Mama Hereby" are weepers, and the rousing "Walk On Water" is a life affirming anthem. All in all a stunning and human disc-a must have!

The idiosyncratic Canadian art pop chanteuse Jane Siberry was born in Toronto, Ontario on October 12, 1955; after taking up the piano as a child, she began absorbing the classical and operatic inspirations that later distinguished her professional work. While earning a degree in microbiology, Siberry began performing at the local coffeehouse where she also worked as a waitress; ultimately, she used her tip money to fund her 1981 self-titled debut LP, a Spartan offering spotlighting her ethereal vocal...
