iTunes Editors’ Notes

Over the course of seven solo albums, former Texas-based blues guitarist Ian Moore has transformed and expanded his sound and approach in unexpected ways. His second album, 1995’s Modernday Folklore, first established his break from whatever Stevie Ray Vaughan expectations might have still lingered by chasing many different genres. By 2005’s Luminaria Moore had relocated to the Pacific Northwest and settled into an ambient, soulful groove that reflected unlikely touches such as Tim Buckley and Talk Talk. 2007’s To Be Loved briefly nods in that quiet direction with “Simple Girl” and the title track which possesses a songwriting complexity that allows for surprising shifts in mood and tone, but mostly Moore aims for a grander, forceful tone. “Literary Kind” shows signs of ‘70s New Wave, while “30 Days” slides towards power pop. “Innocent Maneuvers” powers up the electricity and uses Moore’s supreme command of his instrument to create highly textured and anthemic hard rock. At this rate, Moore may never settle on a style because there’s so much left to do.

Loving To Be Loved

It's groovy, it's fabulous, it's literally To Be Loved! Ian's newest album is a breath of fresh air. Staying true to himself, his music reflects a unique style like no other. With tracks such as 30 Days & Literary Kind, Ian shows us what he's really made of. He knows how to touch the human soul with his emotive lyricism, and brilliant song craftsmanship. To Be Loved takes you on a mystical musical journey, and I hope you will join us!

Could This Be It?

"to be loved" is everything that any contemporary ian moore fan is looking for. it has his distinct and lush voice, energetic songs, tight harmonies, and perhaps that final produced touch that could vault him into the spotlight. if he's not playing large arenas soon, that's understandable. but "to be loved," ian's best and most mature effort to date, should at least land him a spot on "austin city limits," assuming he wants it. jeff buckley, leonard cohen, and elvis costello fans need look no further: you'll love "to be loved."

Shame be upon those who do not respect an artist's right to change. Ian has been on my radar since I saw him open for Eric Johnson - back in the Ian Moore Bands days. He stays on my radar because he is a pure, honest, talented musician and songwriter. This album is just another fine example of his greatness. Keep it up Ian - I'd listen if you recorded a tuba album. P.S. Lest anyone think Ian has lost his chops - check him out live. You will be humbled!
