Between the Dreaming and the Coming True

Between the Dreaming and the Coming True

It may or may not be significant that Bebo Norman considered a medical career before becoming a full-time Christian singer/songwriter. It is certainly true that he enjoys dissecting the spiritual ills of the human condition, a pursuit much in evidence on Between The Dreaming And The Coming True (2006). Since his emergence in the late 1990s, Norman has added more pop/rock heft to his acoustic folk approach while retaining the intimacy of his slightly hoarse vocal style. His wistful, battered-but-still-believing persona comes through on tracks like “The Way We Mend” and “Time Takes Its Toll On Us.” When he raises his ragged voice in worship — as in “I Will Lift My Eyes” — his humility makes his prayer all the more effective. As with past releases, Norman wins your sympathy for his foibles even as he points out eternal truths. Between The Dreaming And The Coming True is the latest installment of this wounded healer’s walk through life.
