One of the most brilliant albums of all time

--Joan's voice is fluid and her range is lovely. Phrasing is simple, yet there is a depth of expression which grows with the listening. "Your Letter" is a love song of passion and sorrow, hope and remorse, tied up in the everyday action of reading your beloved's words on a page. This album has been on rotation in all of its incarnations in my house through the years--I have the vinyl original, a tape, then the CD and now on my ipod. Always brings me somewhere.

Get this album. It's just one of life's musts.

Baby, I: Haunting, sweet, beautiful, melodic, can't-get-it-out-of-your-head song. After a couple years of searching for this album- and I mean everywhere (my vinyl had a huge popping click throughout my favorite song), I finally bought the cd online from a previous owner: $135.00. People who know me would be like, "WHAT!!??" I don't know why this treasure was unavailable for so long but for "Baby, I" alone, I would pay large again. Thanks, Ms. Armatrading, for this and your other wonderful songs and albums. I'm buying "To The Limit" again.

You will fall in love with this record! (CD, whatever)

This is a hidden jem of the iconic Joan Armatrading. I first heard it in college in the early 90's, my roomate had it. It soon became one of our most played records. It's smoothe, beautiful, emotional, jazzy, has some rock guitar, and all of Joan's sweetness. What Do You Want, Baby I, Wishing, and Am I Blue For You are some of my favorite songs. As another reviwer mentioned, this was out of print for a long long time. So don't hesitate to buy this!

Born in 1950 on the island of St. Kitts, Joan Armatrading was her country's -- as well as Britain's -- first female to gain international success as a singer/songwriter. Spicing her take on folk with elements of rock, blues, and jazz, she has had a remarkably long, consistent career. Armatrading immigrated to England in 1958 and began writing songs six years later. In 1970, she met lyricist Pam Nestor, and the two began collaborating on material later featured on Armatrading's 1972 debut, Whatever's...
