Album Review

A reissue of LPM-1887 from 1958 with different liner art, but identical otherwise. The original was only issued in mono, so it is likely RCA decided that while they were issuing the stereo masters, they'd update the artwork to include Belafonte's photogenic presence.

A True Classic!

One of the most beautiful songs for the Christmas season! I have listened to this song all my life and it never gets old. Truly a classic that reminds us what Christmas is really about. The gifts and cookies are a wonderful way for friends and family to slow down and reconnect, but we also need to take a moment to reflect how it all began!

A Gem

Quite possibly the finest "contemporary Christmas" LP ever recorded. No dreadful (and annoying) renditions of "Holly, Jolly Christmas", "Jingle Bells" et al. here -- Belafonte's voice is sweet and soulful without being sappy and overwrought. Further, the selections -- ranging from familiar ("Silent Night", "Twelve Days of Christmas") to unexpected gems ("Jehovah the Lord Will Provide", "A Star in the East" -- coupled with understated, tasteful arrangements, make this one of those albums that will leave you wondering how you managed to miss this one before now.
