FINALLY...

David Garrett is a dream come true for me. I love my hard rock and I love classical now as I'm getting a bit older and this C.D. is just magnificent!
What a beautiful mix of songs too. I am so grateful for Mr. Garrett and I am sure to be a life long fan. Many blessings to you for giving us all this beautiful gift!

Great Idea....

To get younger people involved with classical music. Heard him perform on Good Morning America today and the crowd roared with approval!

Rollover Beethoven, there

I bought this today, and it's really great. It's a kind of Gateway Drug for addiction to Beethoven, which will lead to an addiction to Brahms, and Mahler, and Stravinsky, and Glass...
As a kid in 1972 I found an album in a record bin by Emerson Lake and Palmer, it was a rock version of PIctures at an Exhibition. I'd never heard of Mussorgsky, but I'd heard of ELP. That led me to the local library, and the Ravel orchestration of Pictures. Side by side I could compare them. I love both versions, to this day.
I still love me some rock and roll. My son is always trying to get Faceless and old metal like Slayer into my iPod. It's there, sharing mind space with Mahler's 3rd, Stravinsky's Oedipus Rex, Moby, Scissor Sisters, Satyagraha. And the ever present Abbey Road.
The "faux passion" that some people have commented here, is in a way, true. It's a kind of translation error. The East Village Opera Company and the Aria (Schwartz) crossover albums do similar stuff, with the same weaknesses and strengths, and yet wonderful. Welcome new classical music lovers, once you learn the language, free of the Rock accent, you'll love this stuff even more. And you'll love Rock more, too. Because speaking another language, even with a bad accent, improves you all the same: your world gets bigger and better and more fun to be in. Rollover, Beethoven. There's room. David Garrett is in the house.

The child of an American mother and a German father, prodigy violin soloist David Garrett, born David Bongartz in Aachen, Germany, reached and surpassed many an important milestone before his matriculation at Juilliard in New York. Garrett's interest in violin began at the age of four, when his older brother received a violin from his father, who was himself an antique stringed-instrument dealer. A year later, Garrett had already won a competition, and by seven he was playing in public as often as...
