21st Century Duende

This album has been out for almost a year in Spain and Europe, and I've owned it since. Finally, it's been released in the US! Techari is no Bari, but I didn't expect it to be. It's more mature, more experimental, it takes more musical risks. It maintains the tradition of flamenco with songs like "Tanguillos Marineros" whereas "Bailaores" is more rumba flamenco with ODB's trademark record scratches interspersed throughout. Marina's vocals on "Silencio" and "Nana" are stellar; these songs are the jewels of the album. For world music lovers, "Todo Tiende" plays with the fusion of flamenco and bhangra, "Runali" shines with Daara J, and "Feedback" features Nitin Sawhney. Overall, this album a pleasure to listen to from start to finish. ODB's lyrics beautifully balance the soulful, the political, and the mundane. A must-have for any Ojos de Brujo fan, or any lover of world music.

The Spirit of Andalusia

From various aspects, this album is special to me. First, it has a great mixture of Andalusian melodies with Nort African and Spanish ones. Second, the impression the Ojos de Brujo (Eyes of the Wizard, in Spanish) leaves on you even after first listening is massive. The emotions and sensations incorporated to the songs, I believe, reflexts the Mediterranean warmness and excitement. Last, but not least, the musical abilities of the members of the band is so charming. Even only the female vocals worth giving it a try!

even better

This album seems evem more colorful than the last. There is so much talent in every song. The harmonies, the flamenco guitar, there is no match that I have heard. Great Job Ojos de Brujo You have out done yourselves yet again.

Originally more of a collective than a band, the Barcelona-based flamenco fusion group Ojos de Brujo, which translates to "Eyes of the Wizard", came together in the mid-'90s when guitarist Ramon Giménez began playing with like-minded experimental musicians such as singer Marina "La Canillas" Abad and percussionist Xavi Turull, trying to find out what kind of sound they could create. In 1999, as an official group, Ojos de Brujo issued their first album, a completely self-produced and self-recorded...
