Album Review

Although the duo of Bobby Blue Bland and B.B. King was one of the most popular touring acts of the '70s and '80s, their first duet album — appropriately titled Together for the First Time ... Live — doesn't quite live up to expectations. Both musicians are in fine form, but rarely do any sparks fly. Occasionally, King turns out a good solo and Bland sings with passion, but usually the vibe of the record is too relaxed to be truly engaging. It's a pleasant record, just not the essential listening that it should have been.

great combo

I can only compare this combo, to my favorite food" biscuits and gravy." They were made for eachother.

Down home neighborhood blues

The initial review of this live performance is completely out of touch. If you've ever been to a blues club and enjoyed live performances, this album puts you in the front row. BB and Bobby are at the top of their game. Its unfortunate we not be able to attend these types of performances. This album is truly suggested for all blues fans.

Excellent, authenic southern blues...

The artists work together like hand-in-glove. As you listen you feel as though you are in a juke joint frequented by those who truely "have to the blues".

His bent notes and staccato picking style influenced legions of contemporary bluesmen, while his gritty and confident voice — capable of wringing every nuance from any lyric — provided a worthy match for his passionate playing. Between 1951 and 1985, King notched an impressive 74 entries on Billboard's R&B charts,...
