iTunes Review

It’s no exaggeration to say that many Van Halen fans have waited their entire lives for this concert album. Never before has Van Halen released a live album with David Lee Roth leading the band. Sammy Hagar certainly has his fans, but it’s no secret that many only consider it "true" Van Halen when DLR is making his crazy whoops and bizarre side remarks. The energy here is contagious, with Diamond Dave giving a true rock performance and Eddie sizzling on guitar through six (!) tracks from their 1978 debut and four each from II and 1984. Now maybe something from the Fair Warning tour? Pretty please.

Customer Reviews

Come on Dave...give me a break!

I wish DLR would just sing! How does the rest of the band put up with this? Bring Sammy back please! A cat being castrated would sound more pleasant to my ears.

Absolute Joke

This live album is sloppy. The vocals, the arrangements, the background vocals, etc. EVH plays ok but listening to DLR turn VH classics into a Lounge Act sideshow makes this impossible to take seriously. Michael Anthony plays and sings circles around Wolfgang. Van Hagar > Current lineup. There is a reason why they can't make it thru a full tour and this live album is the documented truth of how far gone they are.

C’mon ‘dave, give me a break...

Dave’s voice has been challenged since his solo album, “Skyscraper” and has been challenged ever since. Mick Jagger can pull it off and he’s a decade older, but Diamond Dave needs to unfortunately hang his hat. His sensible shoes are worn and his Yankee Rose is wilted. I feel horrible saying this, but I’m just speaking from the heart and I just want to remember Van Halen for VH1 - 1984! The years 1978-1984 were raw, legitimate, and phenomenal Van Halen!!!

Biography

Genre: Rock

Years Active: '70s, '80s, '90s, '00s, '10s

With their 1978 eponymous debut, Van Halen simultaneously rewrote the rules of rock guitar and hard rock in general. Guitarist Eddie Van Halen redefined what the electric guitar could do, developing a blindingly fast technique with a variety of self-taught two-handed tapping, hammer-ons, pull-offs, and effects that mimicked the sounds of machines and animals. It was wildly inventive and over the top, equaled only by vocalist David Lee Roth, who brought the role of a metal singer to near-performance...
