After coming together as students at U Penn, Kidz in the Hall (Naledge and Double-O) hooked up with New York super-producer Just Blaze. He mentored them and helped with their well-received 2006 debut, School Was My Hustle, which came out on the revamped Rawkus Records. Rejecting gangsta clichés in favor of lush, sample-saturated production and fashion-forward middle-class rhymes, they were a perfect group for younger heads growing up on Kanye and Lupe Fiasco. The Kidz soon signed with Duck Down and dropped solid follow-ups like The In Crowd and Land of Make Believe; they scored an underground hit with the single "Drivin' Down the Block," reinterpreting Masta Ace's timeless classic "Born to Roll." Tiding fans over until their next full-length (Occasion), Wishful Drinking is a six-track EP that continues their intoxicating blend of old school and new school, all with exceptional beats supporting whimsical verbal gymnastics. Don't miss the finely chopped "No Doz," the Screw-style "Tonight," and the spacy closer "The Life."
