iTunes Review

With the 1981 release of Tonight I’m Yours Rod Stewart looked poised to take on the new decade with a better understanding of what his sound should be. He’d long left behind the bluesy folk-based rock of his youth and here finds himself comfortably grooving to accelerated dance beats and light, airy keyboards. “Young Turks” remains one of the strongest songs of his career with its irrepressible hook and driving rhythm. And there are plenty of decent counterparts here, as the opening title track bursts with a similar excitement and “Jealous” has real anger fueling its vocal track. “Tora, Tora, Tora (Out With the Boys)” and “Tear It Up” are old-styled rockers delivered with a lightness of being, while the Stewart original “Only a Boy” kicks up a decent heat. True to Stewart form, his interpretations are revelatory. The ‘70s hit for Ace, “How Long,” twists from a smooth lite-rocker into an emotive piece of ‘80s rock, as Stewart adds his experienced nuance to each twist of the chorus. For Bob Dylan’s “Just Like a Woman,” Stewart overrides the backing band’s slickness with a strong, forceful vocal that proves him a definitive stylist no matter what the occasion.

Rod at his best

His voice was so strong at this time. He was so poised on stage and his hair was so cooool! I've followed Rod for 30 yrs and this album, in my opinion, is his best.

Amazing! It's just so good. His songs are really good. Specially "Tonight I'm Yours" PRICELESS!

Great album

Young Turks and how long has this been going on are two of his greatest songs!

Over the course of his career, Rod Stewart has had it all. He's been lauded as the finest singer of his generation, he's written several songs that turned into modern standards, he sang with the Faces, who rivaled the Rolling Stones in their prime, he had massive commercial success. Stewart also saw his critical respect slip away during the '80s, when he recorded lightweight pop and although he did record some terrible albums -- and he would admit that freely -- Stewart will always be remembered...
