Initially prepped as a solo project for Jason Hendardy, once of Young Prisms, Newly Wed Nearly Dead evolved into a new band project, with guitarist Brenden Nerfa, bassist Megan Dabkowski, and drummer Mike Stillman filling in the empty seats magnificently. With Ruminator's Monte Vallier and the legendary Kramer (Bongwater, Low, the Shimmy-Disc label) producing, Permanent Collection captures an aggressive shoegaze vibe that incorporates the Amerindie sound of the late '80s and early '90s. Picture Superchunk letting out its Jesus & Mary Chain side, with a touch of Ride and Slowdive ready in the pinch. The garage-rock fury of "One Thousand Sins" establishes the joy of this approach, while "In My Head" barrels down the Pacific Coast Highway like vintage Sonic Youth. This San Francisco quartet has a wide palette of sounds to draw from, coating everything in warm distortion and mega-reverb. Dreamscapes emerge in the scraping haze of "Sundays" and the surf-gone-wild growl of "It's Alright." Truly inspiring guitar-based psychedelia.
