Album Review

Opening an album with — let alone naming an album after — a then-contemporary cover song is a rather unconventional move. But then again, Nantucket were never ones to strive for convention or conformity. Leading off with AC/DC's "It's a Long Way to the Top" set the tone appropriately for what followed on the group's third album. While not as hard rocking as 1979's Your Face or Mine, Long Way to the Top adapted Nantucket's sound for the ever-evolving AOR and Top 40 formats, and found them not sounding as much like other classic rock groups as they had previously. Larry Uzzell is in fine form, with the bandmembers in tow writing and sounding as if they were heavily influenced by Tom Petty's classic Damn the Torpedoes record. The record stumbles at times ("50 More" could easily have been left off to make room for something more fitting), but that's a mere distraction and easily forgivable when listening to the rest of the album. Not their strongest effort, but even on their worst days Nantucket rocked harder than most bands on their best.

Customer Reviews

good stuff but...

Nice lp good songs but where is the first lp and Heartbreaker please -and not the live verson, but this is a good lp.

Sizzling

I remember when this came out in the early eighties. I love "Living with You, "
"Too Much Wrong," "Rock of the 80s," and "time Bomb"--great songs. The sound reminds me of the Michael Stanley Band with a side of southern rock/boogie. Would like to own more by these guys.

Face Follow-up

Time Bomb, Living With You, Rug Burn are exhibit the best hooks here, not to mention the AC/DC title cover track. The Uzzle brothers fizzled after this release just as Face and Long Way served in establishing legs for Nantucket.
