iTunes Review

Juvenile now stands as one of Southern rap’s elder statesmen, having mentored some of the top rappers in the world, including Lil Wayne. Even as the Southern form of rap has splintered into dozens of subgenres, Juvenile has remained faithful to his own distinctive New Orleans flow. He applies his distinctive delivery to a variety of backdrops on Cocky & Confident, his ninth album and one of the most consistent efforts of his career. Juve’s raspy voice reeks of experience and toughness, and he elevates the street anthems “We Be Getting Money” and “New Orleans Stunna.” Even though Juvenile has long since left the Cash Money family, “I’m Shining” feels like a throwback to the days of Hot Boys hits. The beats here grow to intense and monstrous proportions, but Juve’s flow has an agility and playfulness that echoes the celebratory dance of New Orleans parade music. There are no gimmicks on Cocky & Confident, and no track better illustrates that idea than “Gotta Get It,” a stripped-down beat that Juve knocks out of the park like a veteran slugger.

Just Stupid

Why would I buy a cd just to listen to someone brag about the money they just took from me. If you're even thinking about buying this forget it and go listen to some real hip-hop, such as Lupe's new mixtape

Not Bad

This album has some pretty nice beats on it and Juvenile definitely went hard throughout the course of "Cocky and Confident." I simply can't bring myself, though, to rate it as a full 5 stars simply because the topics and themes of the songs seem sort of repetitive and old. Great overall album though.

He keeps to his roots with this album. Fast up tempo beats that we are use to from New Orleans rappers. Its got that original Cash Money style that they had when they first came on the seen. The beats are fit perfect for Juve, not like this stuff we hear on the radio everyday with rappers all sounding alike. This will have you jammin through the rest of the year or until somebody drops something worth buying. Go Juve!

Having come up in the Hot Boys group alongside superstar Lil Wayne, New Orleans rapper Juvenile is a Southern hip-hop veteran, and a chart-topping one as well, having climbed the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 with his 2004 single "Slow Motion." Born Terius Gray, Juvenile was one of the initial figures involved in New Orleans' "bounce" craze of the early '90s, an uptempo style of hip-hop that combined gangster rap and party music. Besides an affiliation with the bounce group U.N.L.V., Juvenile was featured...
