Thankyou

People are always asking me who you guys are. Been playing your albums on our boat for years. We needed some new stuff. And you never disappoint.

Slightly Stoopid is always keeping it fresh and better than ever!!!!

It's hard to top their last few albums, but this one shows a new side and really seems to showcase their skills as talented musicians. Great collaborations and great song writing on this album. Yet again, another great album by this amazing band!!

Creative Solutions Music Promotions Review: Top of the World

There’s something to be said for an album that stands the test of time, a band that can still rock a show after years of touring, or a band that makes music that hits your inner core. Then, there’s Slightly Stoopid and their new album Top of the World. The last time I remember connecting with an album like this, was Peace of Mind by Rebelution back in January. It’s not often you can listen to tracks off the same album collectively over 250 times in 6 days since it’s release.

The best part of this album is that the music never gets old, it only grows on you even more. Personally, I think this album is some of the best stuff Slightly has put out in years. With special guests Chali 2na (of Jurassic 5/Ozomatli), Angela Hunte, Angelo Moore (of Fishbone), G. Love (of G. Love & Special Sauce), and reggae legends Don Carlos and Barrington Levy.

My favorite song off the album is “Mona June” with Angela Hunte, hands down. It has such a relaxing Caribbean style reggae vibe, followed up by some great vocals from both Miles and Kyle, eventually featuring versus from Angela Hunte, who absolutely kills it! What an incredible voice!

“Just Thinking” with Chali 2na is also another great song off the new album. After years of performing with Jurassic 5 and Ozomatli, and most recently with Adam Deitch and Borahm Lee (both of Break Science), he linked up with Slightly Stoopid to produce this track. His verse features his “distinctive bass-heavy voice”, over some dubbed reggae music. A perfect combination!

The title track on the album, “Top of the World,” is extremely good as well. Sometimes, the title tracks of albums aren’t as good as other songs on a particular album, but Slightly Stoopid rose to the task on this album and produced a masterpiece from start to finish!

“Pon da Horizon” takes more of a funk/instrumental flow and man did that turn out great! Incorporating solos from the horns was the perfect touch on this song. It’s not often that Slightly Stoopid will shift away from their reggae vibes, but this transition to funk on “Pon da Horizon” was a great move by the band.

“Ska Diddy” featuring Angelo Moore (of Fishbone) also takes on a different style than the sound most Slightly fans are accustomed to. Yet, once again, it turns out to be another great song. “Ska Diddy” is the kind of song that will get you up and moving, and dancing all around.

“Ur Love” featuring Barrington Levy, is a great example of mixing reggae of the old and new. Barrington Levy has been a part of the reggae music scene for years. Bringing him back to play alongside Slightly after their last collaboration on the 2005 album, Closer to the Sun, was nothing short of perfect.

I’m truly very impressed with the latest material from Slightly Stoopid and definitely put them on my list of bands that you absolutely must see live next time they’re in your town! Currently ranked #18 on iTunes best selling albums list, Top of the World is an absolute must buy for anyone who enjoys reggae music!

Slightly Stoopid's Miles Doughty and Kyle McDonald were signed to Sublime mastermind Brad Nowell's Skunk imprint while still in high school, and did two albums for the label, Slightly Stoopid in 1996 and Longest Barrel Ride two years later. While the sound back then was SoCal skatepunk influenced by thrash elements and copious amounts of weed, Doughty and McDonald's playing and singing had matured considerably by 2001 and Live & Direct: Acoustic Roots. The duo was later rounded by drummer Ryan...
