Album Review

Where Way Out West impressed the listener with wild rockers and stratospheric yodeling, Total Yodel!, ironically, is a fairly low-key affair, heavy with high lonesome ballads and cowboy songs. Indeed, we hear more of Wylie's yodeling skills here, but rather than knocking our socks off, they are a subtle part of the music in the style of Jimmie Rodgers, and a number of covers (including three by Rodgers) confirm that Wylie values tradition over gimmickry. Infectious in its simplicity, Total Yodel!'s sincerity and energy set the tone for its masterful follow-up, Ridin' the Hi-Line.

One of the best!!

I met Wylie at the National Cowboy Poetry Gathering in Elko, NV. He is a great, down to earth guy that loves to perform. And wows his audiences all the time. I love his music because it represents true country- a love of his horses and music, and a true cowboy at heart. I have most of his cd's and one of his band members also. (Ray Doyle). My son's love listening to him as well. My two year old gets out his guitar and comes to me saying "Lyllie, Lyllie". I have seen him perform at the dances here and my husband and I love to go every year. He has a Live! at the Tractor Tavern album out with a dvd that is great. If you are looking for music and a voice that is smooth and true to the roots of what "cowboy" music is all about, this is it!!!

Landing in Nashville in 1992, Wylie & the Wild West Show released several videos that received regular airplay on both CMT and TNN; and although the tall, bespectacled...
