A Great 2-Disc CD

I love this CD, and it is one of my most cherished CDs in my Carpenters Collection. I do think that the reverb is a bit too much, but I like the remixes, because, personally, I think it sounds a bit better than some of the originals. Here's a heads up on some of the songs. Only Yesterday (Disc 1, track 13) is a good song, but I recommend buying the Horizon version (it's extended on the Horizon album) and it sounds exactly the same. (They Long To Be) Close to You (Disc 2, track 6) was a hit. It stayed at #1 for a whole month! However, like Only Yesterday, I recommend buying the Close To You version because the Close To You version is extended. Superstar and Rainy Days and Mondays are the songs that I constantly listen to on my iPod, along with Top of the World. I think that they're great remixes. A heads-up on Solitaire: for the other obsessive Carpenters fans (I'm one of them), Solitaire on this album is a single version, which means that it is better than the album version (in my mind). In short, this album is great, with many of my favorite songs. I recommend it to anyone who loves the Carpenters.

Best Female Voice in my lifetime...

I've been a Professional Musician for over 30 years and have been been a professional recording artist for nearly 20. I have yet to hear, see or stumble upon anyone's voice that merely come's close to Karen's ... Ever. She is "perfection."

An Incredible Summary Of An Incredible Career

For the last time, all of the Carpenters well-known songs and album cuts are presented in this two-disc sut summarizing their entire career. Every album is sampled except "Old Fashioned Christmas" and "Lovelines." There is plenty of room on either disc for one or two more tracks, anything from the latter unsampled album would have been more than welcome. At the time of this release, "As Time Goes By" was still an import only and the included tracks here from that album were treated with much fanfare. Again, the mastering of this project is superb, this set features only the best versions, some remixed and for the first time ever on cd, the single version of "Solitaire" is here, the running length is the same as the album version, it's the inclusion of a pipe organ and the intro of the guitar that is different. The inclusion of this rare arrangement indicates Richard is tying up loose ends, as of this writing he is working on a solo holiday album slated for a 2005 release, according to him he's taking his "sweet time" recording it, we may not see it for another two or three years.

Biography

Formed: 1968 in Downey, CA

Genre: Pop

Years Active: '60s, '70s, '80s

With their light, airy melodies and meticulously crafted, clean arrangements that appealed to a variety of audiences, the Carpenters stood in direct contrast with the excessive, gaudy pop/rock of the '70s; yet they became one of the most popular artists of the decade, scoring 12 Top Ten hits, including three number one singles. Karen Carpenter's calm, pretty voice was the most distinctive element of their music, settling in perfectly amidst the precise, lush arrangements provided by...
