Album Review

A mini-concept LP, Trans Canada Highway follows the Scottish brothers (who spent time in Canada) as they trek from St. John's, Newfoundland, to Victoria, B.C., in under a half-hour. Beginning with the only old track, "Dayvan Cowboy" (a highlight of 2005's The Campfire Headphase), Michael Sandison and Marcus Eoin sound just a little refreshed at the thought of producing a low-impact EP instead of an eagerly awaited LP. After the slowly shifting single gets out of the way, Sandison and Eoin start looking back to Geogaddi territory, reprising ghostly effects and skeletal melodies with quarter-speed hip-hop beats to create a work that would barely take you 45 miles along the highway but, put on repeat mode, wouldn't even sound tired by Montreal. The sixth track is a remix of "Dayvan Cowboy" by Anticon associate Odd Nosdam, who shows his allegiance with his own mostly beatless soundscapes, which warp and flow with the best of BoC.

Customer Reviews

Great album.

The new tracks are great! I wish they would make another complete album but this will do as an appetizer. I have probably listened to skyliner 50 times and I am still mesmerized by it everytime. If you like BoC, this is a must have addition.

i can't get over how good skyliner is

the album is a cohesive body of work that is overall enjoyable. however, i have to say that skyliner is the song that has most captivated me and has brought me the most joy of any of them. even if one doesn't wish to own the whole album i think skyliner will be the best $0.99 you will spend today.

Boards of Canada is the most underrated band

This album is a great example of the superb talent behind Boards of Canada. One of there shortest albums but also one of the best. Tracks 1-5 are perfect in everyway and showcase some of the best electronic music out there..you just have to look people!

Boards of Canada are the duo of Michael Sandison (born June 1, 1970) and Marcus Eoin (born July 21, 1971). Based on the northern coast of Scotland, the group got its start on acclaimed experimental electronica label Skam in 1996 after recording an obscene number of tracks and pressing the best of them up as a miniscule-run 12", Twoism, an eight-track promo EP the group sent to labels in lieu of a demonstration tape. The pair's first official release appeared on Skam toward the middle of 1996, and...
