Album Review

How many openly gay pop artists are there on the scene who actually come out early in their careers — and not wait for the obligatory Behind the Music episode or sit-down with Oprah Winfrey several years down the road? Not many, and that's certainly what makes Ari Gold stand out from the pack. Gold specializes in R&B-electro-dance sounds that are a pleasant surprise given the fact that the music is laid-back and not of the hyper variety, as evidenced throughout his 2007 release, Transport Systems. And unlike quite a few similarly styled artists who simply revisit the same old subject matter in their lyrics, Gold's lyrics run the gamut from gay relationships ("Good Relationship") to human rights ("Human") and even drug addiction ("Feeding the Fire"). That said, none of the music is particularly revolutionary here; it's just pleasant dance-pop that comes off like a more mature Backstreet Boys at times — "Where the Music Takes You," "Mr. Mistress," etc. But Gold certainly deserves credit for tackling lyrical subjects usually not linked with dance-pop, which he boldly does throughout Transport Systems.

This is AWESOME!

I am so excited that this album is finally released. I just got my copy and it is brilliant. I am playing it on repeat. The production the lyrics, the singing. Ari is singing about things that no one has sung about before and really confronting subjects that many real people face. I LOVE Where The Music Takes You and caught the animated video on LOGO this week. This album is so awesome. Aside from the amazing album, Ari is one of the only artists I know unafraid to completely be himself - he is such an amazing activist for not only the gay community, but the world. Gay Pop with a Soul

Ari Gold has broken thru with, what some might call a sugar pop gay music...But, if you judge the album on just it's sugary parts, then I think you need to listen to some of the music in your own collection, and see how sweet you are...I think the fact that he is gay, should not have anything to do with a talent that will be emerging here...So, Ari rock on and I being a gay man can't get enough of your sound....

I just previewed some of his earlier stuff and there were some decent songs on a couple CD's, but this is the epitomy of sugary gay make Wham sound like Bethoven. I'm sure sure it keeps his dance card full, he is really your money for a Pride compilation. --written by a gay man--
