Editors’ Notes

Falling in the middle of the towering successes of Off the Wall and Thriller, Triumph achieves a balance between the blissful disco of the former and the sharp-edged pop of the latter. While the Jacksons were still bonded at this time, there is no denying that Michael had become the dominant creative force within the group. He is responsible for writing or co-writing six of the album’s nine songs, and even on tunes by Jackie and Randy (“Your Ways,” “Wondering Who,” “Time Waits for No One”) Michael’s vocals give the music its glowing aura. While there is nothing here as indispensable as “Don’t Stop ‘Til You Get Enough” or “Billie Jean,” “Can You Feel It,” “Lovely One,” and “This Place Hotel” exude the same urgent passion that made Michael’s solo work so irresistible. Triumph can’t boast the phenomenal popularity of its sister albums, but it is no less golden. Michael Jackson was in the zone, enlivened by the support of his family, and everything he touched during this period alights with a singularly exhilarating inspiration.

Customer Reviews

"Can U Feel It?" I Can!

Tito, Jackie, Randy, Marlon and Michael the recorders on this CD given to the world known as "TRIUMPH." This CD is a symbol of the peacock many strings, sounds, emotions and feelings. Michael was at his peak on lead songs "This Place Hotel," and "Can You Feel It" which is definately a club favorite. This CD also showcases the muscial talents of Jackie Jackson in "Wondering Who" an inovative club disco sound. Other jams include "Lovely One" and "Everybody" leading up to the sound from the man we all know as the "King of Pop," Michael Jackson. Triumph is an Epic and a must have for a Jackson fan!

Great Album

Destiny was probably the better album, but the Jacksons here clearly remained on top of the soul music world with Triumph. To tallTB, you are mistaken. The song was originally entitled "Heartbreak Hotel" when the album first came out in 1980. Apparently, it was changed later (maybe because of the clash with Elvis' song "Heartbreak Hotel"). I'm a REAL Jacksons fan.

Itunes...

Itunes is missing a ton of more songs from the Jacksons. Also, why isn't EVERYTHING from the Jacksons under The Jackson 5? instead of The Jacksons, The Jacksons 5, Jacksons, and Diana Ross Presents The Jacksons. LOL Took me forever to find one song....Get it together.

Biography

Formed: 1966 in Gary, IN

Genre: R&B/Soul

Years Active: '60s, '70s, '80s

The Jackson 5 were one of the biggest phenomenons in pop music during the early '70s, and the last great group to come out of the Motown hitmaking machine before Marvin Gaye and Stevie Wonder shifted the label's focus to more individual visions. The Jackson 5's infectious brand of funky pop-soul was a definite departure from the typically smooth, elegant Motown sound, as befitting the group's youth and the dawn of a new decade. That youth, coupled with the merchandising juggernaut that sprang up...
