Box Of Frogs - "Strange Land"

Their second and final album. One can say this album is a waste, but that would miss the point of the experimentation that was the 80's. More than one singer wasn't smart, but as extremely annoying as the 2nd vocal timbre is, those songs are good (the title track and the Yardbirds cover, which, of course, is updated here by the Yardbirds under their new name). As classic as the first album was, it took no chances. This album has it's share of cheese-pop that killed the wonderful reputation of the early 80's. [It seems that after Live Aid, the decade burned out like a nose-diving plane.] But, there were some musical touches that absolutely continued the legacy of this accomplished outfit. Unfortunately, two of the best were only on the cassette edition as bonus tracks ! "I Keep Calling" is both hard-pop and solid rock with similar touches to Yes' "City Of Love" or Billy Squier's "The Stroke". "20/20" is the other bonus, but many of the tunes on this album have the same approach as their first and that's worth the price for lovers of classic rock. Just stay away from the album opener so you're not tempted to toss your Pod at the wall in disgust.
