EDITORS’ NOTES

Scruffy and stripped down, The Lonesome Crowded West embodies '90s indie rock at its most meaningful. Singer and guitarist Isaac Brock is wired one minute, withdrawn the next, and the band follows his mood. Feverishly raking his strings, he whips them into a clanging ruckus on "Doin’ the Cockroach." Yet for every high there is a low; that’s certainly the case with “Out of Gas,” in which Brock drowsily chants, "You will come down too soon"—a fitting mantra for this manic, anxious band.
