Album Review

Heavy music that contains just the right amount of melody and hooks for possible crossover success: this formula has been around for eons, but with the patience of record companies (or what's left of them) wearing thin for new bands to score hits by the early 21st century, many up-and-coming artists are racking their brains for that big breakthrough. The debut full-length by Austin, TX, quartet Anew Revolution, 2008's Rise, shows a band very well equipped for a legitimate chance at mainstream appeal. Producer Mudrock (whose credits include working with Avenged Sevenfold and Godsmack) has no problem creating a glossy sheen that also contains metallic grit when needed, as evidenced by such melodic heavy-hitters as "Done" and "Saddest Song." Anew Revolution are certainly not trying to reinvent the hard rock wheel — in fact, they sound quite a bit like countless other bands mining similar sonic terrain — but there's no denying that Rise would fit in perfectly with the majority of modern-day hard rocking chart-toppers.

A true new revolt in every sense of the word!

I hope you are in the mood for a new revolution because this is one of the most powerful and greatest CDs I've heard in a long time! I've seen them live a few times and they never disappoint. Joey Duenas (ex-Lead singer for Unloco) has some very strong vocals and once you start a song...you can't finish it until he's uttered the last words of it. He's teamed up with former Slaves On Dope Bassist and Drummer (Frank Salvaggio and Rob Urbani) and new guitarist Shawn Stockton to bring this amazingly powerful CD. Older songs from their EP (Saddest Song, True Faith, and Rise) have been revamped and reworked to bring even more to the sound. Their current single 'Done' is just as great as it is live and 'Let Go' has an added guitar solo that they usually reserve for live shows. 'California Burning' comes really close to capturing their "live show essense" and has an indescribable intensity to it! As for the new songs (N.M.E., Generation, Beautiful, The Lonely, and Love to Hate) are just as incredible as the rest of the album and flow with a power that hasn't been heard since Godsmack's debut album. You will not be disappointed with this album and you should catch them on tour with Otep right now if you can! Once you hear the title track "Rise" you won't be able to stop yourself from 'Standing the f*** up and Rising'! "Every generation needs a new revolution" - Thomas Jefferson.

Awesome!

I have nothing to say but great job guys... the only problem was the fact that it was hard to find this new album of there's. When looking up Anew Revolution most people don't know that it's not A New Revolution! Now this makes me wonder if Anew Revolution is the exact same band as the first EP album they made. Sure it has 3 of the same songs but that doesn't mean that the singer didn't change. I find the songs to differ a little bit from the sound of the vocalist. Otherwise the music is awesome!

A New Revolution has truly arrived!

Remember when rock an roll meant something? Remember the time before all the posers that are currently clogging the soundscapes of the world? Well that time is now. ANR deliver an outstanding album. Highlights include "Generation" an anthem that is sure to connect with the rebellious teens and cause a youthquake; "True Faith" an alternative 80's classic that sounds like it was meant to sound and "Let Go" a beautifully haunting break-up tune that is radio-ready and a sure-fire hit. This will be on constant rotation on my IPOD. And they are amazing live! Attikus

Years Active: '00s

Hard rockers Anew Revolution are based in Austin, TX and were founded by former Ünloco vocalist/guitarist Joey Duenas together with ex-Slaves on Dope members Frank "Frankie" Salvaggio (bass/backing vocals) and Rob Urbani (drums). The trio proceeded to hone its chops on a pair of independently released EPs — 2005's Revolution and 2007's Live at the Machine Shop in Flint — before securing a deal with Koch/E1 (and enlisting lead guitarist Shaun Stockton) for the release of the group's debut...
