Editors’ Notes

The tragic life of Free guitarist Paul Kossoff (who was 17 when Free formed and died at 26) can be heard in earnest on this debut solo set. Recorded in 1973 after Free’s breakup, it shows Kossoff’s mastery of musical restraint and ringing sustains, as well as his love of blues (the title song) and soul (“I’m Ready,” “Moulton Gold,” which features lead vocals by ex-bandmate Paul Rodgers). But it’s the heart in Kossoff's playing (especially on the long, unshackled “Tuesday Morning”) that’s the essential attraction here. This carefully conceived deluxe set collects the original album plus enlightening alternate mixes and outtakes.

So good he'll make a grown man cry. Long live KOSS!!!!

First, thank you iTunes for carrying this piece of magic. After leaving Free God, oh I mean Koss recorded what was to be the original 5 track gem. As you can see it's now 20 and IMHO not a bad added track whatsoever. The best part is the excellent remaster. The disc was sadly low in frequency on the original, now Koss jumps right of the speaker! All in all if you're reading this you already now the genius of Paul Kossoff. Top 5 greatest guitarists ever. Even Slowhand sought Paul out before a show (Free opened for the Blind Faith tour) to learn a Paul technique. A must for any collection

Sweet singing guitars. nice. I going to start using the day of the week + mood/time of day for my song titles (Thursday morning liquid blues jam take 5.2) Brilliant idea. Old school style all the way. Big Chorus, and hooks… eh no wait. It's got moments of fury and soul. I already have that, so… I'm not buying this.

1/5/13 Sir Wiliest Sync. Sane person in a crazy world.

Throughout the years, rock music has been littered with talented musicians whose lives were cut short due to drug-related deaths. Free/Back Street Crawler guitarist Paul Kossoff was one such casualty. Kossoff was born in London, England, on September 14, 1950, and early on studied classical guitar (before giving up on the instrument by his teenaged years). But upon discovering the British blues-rock movement of the '60s, Kossoff's interest in guitar perked up once again, especially after catching...
