great album overall but...

What a great, long awaited album. Mike Kinsella has done it again 1. New Leaves is agreat song with the clever lyrics and the wide variety of instrumentation. It was a good opening choice for the album 2.Good Friends, Bad Habits is O.K. but in my opinion it does not measure up to the other tracks on the album. Maybe it is because I listened to it before the release date of the record I'm just not sure 3. A Trenchant Critique. All I can say is WOW. Great lyrics. solid guitar parts everything is strong 4. Never Been Born had a really good "timeline" in the story of the different stages of his life. They were partly metaphorical but well put. 5.Amneisa and Me was a bit more up-tempo and not as depressing as the other songs on this album. 6.Brown Hair In a Bird's Nest in my opinion is the best song on this album. Very deep and sad lyrics. and a haunting low toned guitar part 7. Too Scared to Move had a pretty and almost sweeping guitar part to it. with guitar up to par and other layers also pretty 8.Good synth and drum beats. During the middle of the song they put a really cool effect on his voice. Cool bells part also. Another song with good lyrics. 9.Ugly On the Inside Isn't that recent but it is a great song and the mix of this version is beautifully haunting. The lyrics are very well put and something I beleive a lot of people can relate to and draw things from real life. there is a really groovy piano in this song that carries the melody very well. 10. Curtain Call Like New Leaves was a good choice for the closer. It starts off with a strong classic rock beat. and in comes a sort of smokey electric guitar part. and from there it goes into some nice layers including a simulated flutish track. I know I have said it a lot but it has great lyrics also. It seems Mike puts a lot of time into his lyrics This album is a great buy. It is a little too short but still a wise choice buying this album

lyrically rich.

it's like a relaxing book of poems, keeps your thoughts flowing with honest lyrics, and beautiful mix of acoustic guitar melodies.very personal, pure, and new.

The best yet

I have been a huge mike kinsella fan for a few years now, and I thought he may have peaked on at home with...., but this is easily the best album he has released. Amnesia and me is a stand out song.

Owen is Mike Kinsella, who has been known for his important role in some of Chicago's most revered bands: Cap'n Jazz, Joan of Arc, Owls, and American Football. All of the projects with the exception of American Football were bands in which Kinsella played with his older brother, Tim, a well-known Chicago musician in his own right. In the projects in which the Kinsella brothers played together, Mike was relegated to the role of drums while his brother handled guitar work. American Football marked...
