Album Review

Like most of the entries in Hip-O's excellent Ultimate Collection, Barbara Mandrell's volume of Ultimate Collection pretty much fulfills the promise of the title, offering 23 tracks, including nearly all of her biggest hits. A few cuts are indeed missing, but all the iconic numbers are here — "Sleeping Single in a Double Bed," "I Was Country When Country Wasn't Cool," "Happy Birthday Dear Heartache" among them — and the quality of the material is consistently high, making this a great summary of her career.

Country Cool

This is the best of the best. From her first hits through her reign as the queen of MCA. Barbara did it all: ballads, dance, pop, and full out traditional country. There is a reason she was the first to be named Entertainer Of The Year twice. My favorite song of hers changes but they are all here "Best of Strangers", "If Loving You Is Wrong", "One of a Kind, Pair of Fools". If you love Barbara, this is the collection. How about Itunes trying to get full albums, she had some great album cuts on albums like "Get To The Heart", "Just For The Record", and "In Black And White".

Barbara strikes for the last time

Just six years later, she was so adept at playing the steel guitar that her father escorted her to a music trade convention in Chicago, where her...
