Album Review

Following his 2012 full-length The Midsummer Station, Owl City songwriter/multi-instrumentalist Adam Young issued his next small batch of new material with the four-song EP Ultraviolet. The brief offering followed the trend of electro-pop songwriting and increasingly polished songwriting set by the full-length that preceded it, with production duties handled in full by Young himself. Ultraviolet's high point was first song and subsequent single "Beautiful Times," a bounding pop track marked by soaring string arrangements from guest violinist Lindsey Stirling, known to many as a quarterfinalist on the 2010 season of television's America's Got Talent.

Well Worth The Wait

This EP was a breath of fresh air. Midsummer Station had me worried, but Adam seemed to come back full force with this EP. To me, this was a natural progression that should have come after ATBAB. I really enjoy this EP. With Mobile Orchestra looking to be a possible snoozer, I'm clinging to this EP until whatever comes after M.O. Up All Night is a catchy dance tune, Wolf Bite is a throw back to the classic Adam Young style that was all his own and made him famous. The EP is rounded out by Adams usual inspriational music Beautiful Times and This Isn't The End.

C'mon Adam

What's the point in naming this album a single? It has three songs on it. Why remove this isn't the end? You never did that before. I still love this EP.

I literally just love Owl City & Adam

Troubled by insomnia, Young began spending his evenings in the household basement, where a computer and several instruments provided a diversion from his sleeping patterns. He eventually combined those diversions into a blend of electronica and emo-pop, using little more than his computer and various keyboards to record the material. Songs were uploaded to MySpace...
