iTunes Review

The use of Fireflight’s “Unbreakable” to promote TV’s Bionic Woman advanced the band into the mainstream — and also secured its image as battle-tested soldiers fighting for inner empowerment. This Christian rock quintet keeps up its aggressive stance throughout most of Unbreakable (2008), its sophomore album. Like the comparable Superchick, Fireflight is fronted by a dynamic female singer (Dawn Richardson) and supported by nu-metal guitar firepower (provided by Justin Cox and Glenn Drennan). Dawn’s defiant wails transform youthful angst into spirit-filled, life-affirming anthems. Tracks like “You Gave Me a Promise” and “Stand Up” frame the struggle between doubt and belief in conflicted but ultimately positive language. The band deals with more earth-bound issues as well, including toxic relationships (“So Help Me God”). Fireflight makes its intentions clear in string-draped ballads like “Brand New Day” and “Wrapped in Your Arms.” And of course, the key track is the title number, a truly bracing blast of heroic pop/rock.

They need to be noticed..

Fireflight sounds a lot like Paramore, BarlowGirl, and Superchick. That being said, i think they're actually better. This album delivers solid rock on a number of levels. (star ratings are after each track.) 1. Unbreakable: A great lead-off song and first single. Reminiscent of Skillet and Flyleaf, this song pulls you in and immerses you in some great riffs and deep lyrics. 5/5 2. You Gave Me a Promise: This song reminds me of "Face Down" by The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus; not it's lyrical content, but its musical style. Its catchy hooks in the chorus will have you singing in the car at the top of your lungs. 5/5 3. Brand New Day: An uplifting song about starting over and leaving the painful past behind. A solid addition to the album. 4/5 4. The Hunger: Just when you're about to write them off as another chick/power-pop/rock band, this song hits heavier than the previous three. Not that it's Flyleaf-heavy, but the guitars in this track sound like something Three Days Grace wish they wrote. 5/5 5. Stand Up: Another song about overcoming hardship. "Stand up if you're broken/Stand up if you feel ashamed/You are not alone when you hurt this way/There's no need to run/Everything will be OK." This song reminds me of Skillet in places. Good stuff. 4/5 6. Forever: Slowing the pace down a little, this song cries out to God... "Oh, tell me You're here/And You will watch over me/Forever/Oh, take hold of my heart/Show me You love me/Forever" A rock song with a power-ballad vocal performance from Dawn Richardson, this one's a keeper. 4/5 7. Go Ahead: This song is more of what you've just heard on the previous 6 tracks.. Good song, but it doesn't stand out from the pack. I wouldn't go so far as to call it filler, but it just doesn't knock your socks off. 3/5 8. The Love We Had Before: This song is a duet with Dawn and (i'm assuming) Justin Cox, one of the guitar players. The addition of a male voice is welcome, but he doesn't sing enough to make a real difference. Another good song, but like the last one, just doesn't stand out from the pack. 3/5 9. So Help Me God: This song doesn't take any musical risks, either, but i like the lyrical content: "You sit beside me, and I love you, but I hate you/I dont want to feel this way, but I can't stop/You reach for my hand, but I move it before you can/I won't let you have that power once again/So help me, God/To let this go/To let this go/So help me, God/To break this hold/To find myself." 4/5 10. Wrapped In Your Arms: This song is a jarring change from the rest of the CD. A slow, acoustic guitar/strings ballad for the first 2:09, it makes for an awesome closing song to an already great effort. One of those cell phone-waving ballads, this one is gonna be a hit. 5/5 Overall, this is another solid album by Fireflight. If you haven't, go buy their first, "The Healing of Harms". This record doesn't dissappoint, and that one won't, either. I hope to see a long, productive career from these guys (and girls). Even tho i gave most of the tracks 4/5 stars, the fact that the whole album is good all the way through merits a 5 star rating. If you don't buy the whole thing, you're cheating yourself. Fireflight, if you're reading this, ROCK ON!!! Hope to see you soon! Must Downloads: Unbreakable, You Gave Me A Promise, The Hunger, Wrapped In Your Arms

Fireflight did an awesome job on this cd!!!! The lyrics are so powerful and pertain to alot of whats been going on in my life. You Gave Me a Promise is my personal favorite. It reminds me that there is always hope in God and whenever we feel like we can't go on, God is ALWAYS there for us and will get us through! I also like Brand New Day. Its so true! With God life is so much better:)

I'm impressed, and i dont impress easy.

This is the first must have album of 2008, enough said.

Beginning in 2006, upon signing to Flicker Records after a couple independent releases, Fireflight became one of the most popular bands on Christian rock radio. The female-fronted band's style of rock is fairly heavy, bordering on metal, and is reminiscent of other popular female-fronted rock bands of the time, such as Paramore and Evanescence.
