Undercover Angel! Midnight Fantasy!

Well now this is a suprise, at long last, and I mean at LONNGG last, Alan O'Day's most popular album "Appetizers" with his one hit wonder "Undercover Angel" is finally put up on iTunes. This is the real deal people, the original album from which the song came from is here finally. You can even download the song itself without buying the whole album which is a bigger and nicer suprise but I bought the whole album just out of curiosity to see what was on it.

After all O'Day as an artist is someone I really don't know much about so I wanted to see his other work for myself. Funny after all these years of just hearing "Undercover Angel" on the radio all the time it's actually strange to hear him sing other songs on the album with different vocal ranges and moods. You can say I bought the whole album more for prosperity purposes than anything else, plus I never knew there was a slightly longer album cut of "Undercover Angel" which is nothing great but ok.

O'Day had more of a career as a song writer where many other artists had major hits with the songs he wrote. He wrote "Angie Baby" which Helen Reddy had a major hit with and his version of the song is on this album too!. He also wrote "Rock and Roll Heaven" made famous by the Righteous Brothers as one of their last hits.

Sad to say that despite this Alan O'Day to the best of my knowledge didn't have that much of a career, as an recording artist anyway, he made a few albums that never matched the success of "Appetizers". So on his own solo career Alan O'Day was a one hit wonder, as a writer he certainly wasn't as he wrote a few hits that other artists had major hits with so there you have it. We now have the classic album "Appetizers" up on the iTunes store with probably one of the greatest classic one hit wonders of the late 70's "Undercover Angel" Yes people love to make fun of this song as being cheesy but hey at least as a solo artist this hit gave Alan his moment in the sun and many other artists never make it that far so here's to you Alan. Cheers!

Before Alan O'Day became a successful recording artist, he was writing hits for other singers. First there was "The Drum" in 1971 for teen idol Bobby Sherman, which was featured on his Portrait of Bobby album. "Angie Baby" for mellow Australian crooner Helen Reddy followed in 1974 on her Free and Easy album, and the single hit the top of the charts late that year. Three years later, O'Day stepped in front of the microphone and took "Undercover Angel," another song he penned, into the winner's circle....
