iTunes Review

Megadeth essentially comes down to Dave Mustaine and whomever he currently deems worthy. (In this case, all three members are seasoned pros from former bands, White Lion to Eidolon.) The 2007 line-up, like those before them, master the unexpected curves, flash virtuosity whenever possible and know how to build tension through machine-like repetition. Megadeth long ago replaced sheer thrash firepower with stronger melodic riffs, and for Megadeth’s 11th studio album, Mustaine balances the elements. Well, except for his social conscience, which knows no refinement. Mustaine calls ‘em like he sees ‘em, and as the title implies, United Abominations is an album very unhappy with the new world order. “Gears of War,” “Washington is Next!” and the title track give plenty of indication where Mustaine’s views sit, but “Amerikhastan,” with its sampled news voices, makes his most visceral and outspoken case. Lacuna Coil’s Cristina Scabbia joins in for a duet of the re-recording of the “ballad” “A Tout le Monde (Set Me Free),” while tracks such as “You’re Dead” and “Burnt Ice” keep the megalomaniacal guitars running at full force.

King of Thrash

After a long wait to their follow up from 04's System has failed, Megadeth has never sounded so refined. United Abomindations hits you like a 10-ton-truck leaving you with that feeling that you get when your favorite band has just come through when they had to bring their best. And for this one, Andy Sneap was brought in to polish up the stellar sound to a sheen. Andy has also added some elements that don't go unseen, this production sounds beefier than ever before from start to finish (Kill Switch Engage). Mustaine has brought with him his long lost identity, the trash-master prevails on tracks like the opener Sleepwalker, Washington's Next, Amerikanstan, and the title track itself. Make no mistake, I've been patiently waiting for an album like this, recent albums before System Has Failed really didn't carry the metal flag, but returning with United Abominations only means Mustaine is ready to carry metal flag on his shoulders again.

Megadeth is back!

United Abominations is the album Megadeth fans have been waiting for. Mixing old-school riffs with updated sound, Dave Mustaine and his new band members have produced an album that is tight and heavy. A good listen from start to finish. Best Song- Washington Is Next!

Mustaine does it again

United Abominations is a phenominal cd. It has screaming guitar solos, powerful drum and bass performances and Dave's snarl from start to finish. Dave has pieced together yet another band of great musicians featuring Glen and Shawn Drover (Eidolon) and James Lomenzo (Black Label Society)

Biography

Genre: Rock

Years Active: '80s, '90s, '00s, '10s

After he left Metallica in 1983, guitarist/vocalist Dave Mustaine formed the thrash metal quartet Megadeth. Though Megadeth followed the basic blueprint of Metallica's relentless attack, Mustaine's group distinguished themselves from his earlier band by lessening the progressive rock influences, adding an emphasis on instrumental skills, speeding up the tempo slightly, and making the instrumental attack harsher. By streamlining the classic thrash metal approach and making the music more threatening,...
