I've been waiting so long for this cd to be available on here! Ethereal voice and amazing material!! And a great value at $10 for all of these wonderful songs!! I hope this really helps to expand her following in the States. Hopefully, her other two cds will follow soon as well!!

Original, clever, and beautiful

My friends living in Dublin introduced me to Cathy Davey via this album, which I immediately fell in love with. It continues to grow on me-- most favored tunes shifting as something new catches me about a track, even though I've listened to the album regularly over the past two and a half years. Lyrically and musically original, clever, and gorgeous; whether a song is crafted lush or spare, Davey pours herself into the performance. There's something in her work that feels strikingly honest, even when she's writing slyish lines like "Could you be a pet, and just squeeze one out of your eye?" or the lyrical entirety of "Happy Slapping." These are catchy songs that are too finely crafted and complex to become feverish annoyances if they persistently resurface in your mind for a time- for me it has felt more like addiction, one that has lightened but never gone away. Her other two albums, both of which I adore, are not exceptions to this one-- but The Nameless is edging up to perfection-- an artist in full stride with no hint of tiredness or confusion of direction. Cathy Davey says she loves the whole process of what she is doing, and it shows.

It has always been painful for me to pick between her songs for two or three to share on a mix for a friend when they are each so unique, but I typically default with "In He Comes" and "Bad Weather," my two consistent favorites. Otherwise, for atmosphere I suggest sampling "Universe Tipping," and "End of the End," for more up tempo "Habit," and "Dog".

Rarely anything but unorthodox, Dubliner Cathy Davey's musical development has been almost as atypical as her listening habits. Having initiated a major-label bidding war before she'd ever performed live, Davey took her time assembling a group of musicians who would not only realize her own ideas, but add their own influences to her bare-bones alternative pop. In her spare time, she admits she prefers not to listen to music, instead taking pleasure in reading, drawing, and watching television. Suffice...
