"Shut up and play yer

"Shut up and play yer' guitar" is the title of one of Frank Zappa's guitar albums. I offer it as advice to Vicki. Her virtuosity on the flat top guitar is astounding. She is brilliantly innovative with a highly developed rhythmic and harmonic sense. Her playing is supremely confident and she propels the music forward with great passion. Unfortunately her vocals are sub-par (inappropriately breathy and affected and consistently off key) and in stark contrast to her superb instrumental prowess. Some of her attempts at arranging background vocals and drum machine parts are also unfortunate - especially the track that sounds like third rate Pat Metheney.

Her instrumentals well worth purchasing are: Outside the Box and New Grass on the album "Outside the Box", and on "Up Close and Personal" - Atomic Reshuffle, Let it Rain, In a Mood, Kali Dreams, Luna Ahumada, Joy, Si, New Grass, Longest Night, and Jamanolo. A warning - Jamanolo runs for 7:18 but the last 2:30 is silence (Perhaps a tribute to John Cage). Same is true for the vocal Eleanor.

Were it not for the vocals I would have rated the album 5 Stars. As the old saying goes: "Shoemaker stick to your last". In other words: Do what you're good at - advice Vicki as well as other stellar guitarists should heed.

Simply Amazing

Her style which she self proclaims "Flap Tap" is just incredible. I understand why Joe Satriani and Steve Vai said those things about her.

Comment to jean-luoise. "Slap Tap"

The style she named, is actually called "Slap Tap" when she was being interviewed over the phone after the guitar super star competition, the interviewer accidentally heard "flap tap" sadly, this title is getting pretty popular, but she still goes by slap tap, which i hope everyone will eventually recognize her style as it is intended to be. "Slap Tap"
