I'm a fan of producer Michael James, which is how I discovered this CD. This is an interesting, talented band and they have a lot of great songs. The music can be a bit difficult to categorize, but there is definitely a common thread and focus. It's very dynamic - ranging from acoustic and ethereal to loud and rocking. Some of the songs have a Floyd influence with the voices and atmosphere. There are two singers (Wishnefsky and Todd Jameson) and they compliment each other well. Most of the songs are guitar driven, but there's a lot of cool keyboard work too. The drummer is very tasty. The theme of Southland is how messed up Los Angeles is. If you live in LA, you will be able to relate to the lyrics. My favorite tracks are Big Green W and This Strange. Knife is a cool opening track - very atmospheric. I like the song Southland too - a great way to close the song cycle. The bonus track Valencia sounds like a different band - it's kind of rockabily or something like that - but it's cool, funny. I say buy this record. It's heartfelt and real.
