Album Review

"It was 15 beers ago, I might have just called you a ho, but what I meant by bitch, was darling, don't you know." OK, so Deaf Pedestrians aren't the sort of band to write profound lyrics, but while finding their niche writing songs that specialize in lowbrow wit, they successfully found a home with Virgin Records and were added to the playlists of active rock stations around the nation. With song content specially tailored for perpetual adolescents, topics vary from getting busy in a back seat, an infatuation with beer, being a downtrodden geek, and playing Dungeons & Dragons. By grasping at punch lines like an attention-starved comedian, their songs fall into a Weird Al jokester brand of comedy, while their sad-sack sentiments could be directly traced to radio of the early '90s, when Beck's "Loser" and Radiohead's "Creep" dominated the alternative rock airwaves. The music of And Other Distractions could easily be of that era, falling somewhere between the Toadies and the Presidents of the United States of America. Luckily for Deaf Pedestrians, their songs are melodic enough to be catchy, and the production quality is modern enough as well.
