Hail Vectors! Good to have you back...
When I think of the punk rock days - several icons come to mind.... there's Johnny Rotten, of course, Joey Ramone, Joe Strummer and then there's Orange County's Taj Vida of The Vectors. Nobody could command a stage like Taj and the boys - with Dave Guccione's power chords and bleeding fingers lighting the way - The Vectors taught a generation what it meant to be alive and also how to really hurt each other while dancing. With frenetic rhythms, blistering solos, haunting lyrics and larger-than-life personalities - The Vectors ultimately helped a lost and hopeless teenage fan base trade in their angst and confusion for the light and fulfillment of self discovery.
Hearing this incredible remaster of their classic 'Death to Disco' really brought me back to those times. It, at the same time, makes me remember what it was like to be young AND makes me want to punch someone in the face. This was the best $0.99 I've spent in a long time! Thanks Vectors for reviving and revitalizing the song that was truly the anthem of my generation.
Death to Disco
I used to see these guys back in the day in Fullerton...They reminded me of a punk-rock version of the WHO, with the slashing guitars, over-the-top drumming, and really inventive bass playing.
"Death to Disco" finally gets the sonic rejuvenation it has deserved. Plus, the dance-mix is really cool and may be the greatest rock and roll swindle since the Sex Pistols! I heard this project was re-mastered by punk icon Geza X. (Germs, Dead Kennedys, Black Flag, etc.) (As if they Vectors needed even more "street cred.")
This is essential listening for fans of classic, old school, first generation Orange County punk...
