Intense Album

This has got to be one of the greatest metal albums of all time, and possibly the most underrated. I never used to take death metal into account, but this album changed that. The musicianship and the jazz fusion breaks are awesome. Veil of Maya is honestly a metal masterpiece; the vocodered vocals mixed in with the death grunts and ethnic female vocals make for a strange, highly original sound. Some other good tracks are Celestial Voyage, I'm But a Wave to..., Textures, and How Could I. If it wasn't for Cynic, I never would have gotten into the good death metal bands like Death and Athiest. The greatest death metal album of all time, highly recomended.

WARNING: Poor sound quality

Awesome album, essential listening for any fan of progressive and/or heavy music. However, the version here on iTunes sounds VERY poor. Buy the actual remasted CD instead.

Different, But In A Good Way

Don't be afraid to buy this album just because it isn't the death metal you expect. This album is the perfect balance of heavy and soft. It has duel vocals with death metal screams and some wierd voice thing that makes the singing interesting. The album is just overall intense and you'll be interested from start to finish.

With the arrival of bassist Tony Choy, the band began recording their first demos, which, for the most part, contained the prevalent death...
