Album Review

This collection of hits and unreleased material by Dan Hartman, the late multi-instrumentalist, producer and songwriter, is only so-so. The hits include the huge dancefloor single "Instant Replay" and a bad remix of the excellent "I Can Dream About You." Also included are Hartman's versions of "Free Ride," written by Hartman as a member of the Edgar Winter Group, and "Living in America," James Brown's huge comeback hit, also written by Hartman. Dan Hartman deserves a better retrospective.

Fraud by iTunes!

I'm getting a little tired of trying to find my favorite 80's songs only to find covers by unheard of bands or "cutting-room floor" versions by the original artist that were never good enough to see the light of day in the first place. If you can't get the originally released versions, don't pretend to have these songs available. You're 30 second preview of this version doesn't even have any vocals in it. Are you trying to hide the fact that it's not the original recording that everyone actually wants?!? Time to "Cowboy-Up" and grow a pair iTunes!

Missing vocals

I love Dan Hartman, but Vertigo /Relight My Fire is devoid of the lead vocals. What's up with that? I want my money back.

Hey Hartman Lawyers!

Double them as one release, if you must, but release something better than this peculiar collection before absolutely no one cares either way.

During the '70s, Dan Hartman was a member of the Edgar Winter Group and was also in Johnny Winter's band for a time. Hartman was also a session musician that supported artists as diverse as Ian Hunter, Stevie Wonder, Todd Rundgren, and Ronnie Montrose. After releasing one undistinguished solo pop/rock album in 1976, he hit the big time with the fine disco album, Instant Replay. Its follow-up, Relight My Fire, wasn't as successful and Hartman retreated to the studio, producing .38 Special, the Average...
