Album Review

For the outrageous, humorous, and amiably rowdy Confederate Railroad, longevity has been the name of the game. They began as a group in 1987, and in 2008 they're still at it. This Rhino collection assembles a whopping 18 tracks from six albums and includes every single the band cut that charted. All of the faves are here, from "Queen of Memphis" and "Daddy Never Was the Cadillac Kind" to "She Treats Her Body Like a Temple" (with George Jones) and "White Trash with Money," with plenty of stops for album cuts along the way. The liner notes by Chris Neal tell a great rags-to-riches story with plenty of colorful commentary by songwriter and lead vocalist Danny Shirley. This is the package Confederate Railroad's many fans — who still show up in the tens of thousands every summer to see the band on tour — have been waiting for.

Great collection from CRR

I learned about Confederate Railroad through an old boyfriend and have to say this music is more fun than he ever was! From the goodtime fun of "Elvis and Andy" (that's Presley and Griffith) and "Bill's Laundromat, Bar and Grill" to the truly touching tribute to a father in "Daddy Never Was the Cadillac Kind" you won't find a pretentious note in the bunch. If that's not enough for you, how many bands can say they have a song all about when Daddy let the "big one" in church? This is fun music for a summertime party by the lake.

These guys are good 90's country

Good collection

Fun Country Music

For those that like their country music like it used to be, with references to Mama, drinking, farting, and women, you will like this CD. The name has nothing to do with the Civil War, its just a name people. Its fun country music, that actually sounds country. Unlike the pop music thats passed off as country music these days. Only these guys would have song about Dad farting in church. (Track 15). Gotta love that ! :)

Often described as a cross between Alabama and Lynyrd Skynyrd, Confederate Railroad made their name with a party-ready hybrid of modern country and Southern rock, which also earned them comparisons to Charlie Daniels and Hank Williams, Jr. Their trashy, roughneck wardrobe was a good indicator of their rowdy, tongue-in-cheek sense of humor, but they were also able to balance that with a sincere sentimental streak. Singer/guitarist Danny Shirley, lead guitarist Michael Lamb, steel guitarist Gates Nichols,...
