I don’t know why more Christians don’t listen to his music. Especially for aspired musicians who like groovy sounds and profound lyrics. Speaking’ truth and making beautiful ear treats. thanks Jimmy

Good not great

Love Jimmy Needham- I have all of his cd's. And while I wanted to love this cd, it's just okay for me. I love the musicality of the album and it has a fresh sound but it's not too different than what you would hear on pop radio and some of the lyrics have the same depth. There are no songs like "Forgiven and Loved", "Rend", or "Clear the Stage." Instead there are general songs about thanking God (great topic but uninspired lyrics) in "Thank You", love songs in "Better Man" and "Only You", and even a cover of a county song in "Forever and Even Amen" which again has a great sound and groove but hardly fits thematically. Best tracks: "Mr Nice Guy", "Sirens", and the best-written track "Vice and Virtue". When I listen to Jimmy Needham I am usually so convicted as I look at lyrics that read like scripture. Here I can enjoy the music and it sounds fun but it's all style with little substance. Maybe another track or two that hit on something deeper would round out this collection of songs. I do recommend it but if I am being honest the deep lyrics we have come to love from one of the genre's best singer songwriters seem to have taken a back seat to musicality and to me that's a shame. In brief: love the joy and energy but miss the deeper lyrics that tie it all together and leave you thinking.

I wish I loved it!

I'm a huge fan...have been for many years. The thing about Jimmy Needham is that he is crazy talented and unique. I love his diversity, and his gift as a great lyricist. I listen to his albums over and over and over again, and I'm able to enjoy the songs by either the beat, the catchy lyrics, or the message that hits my heart. Unfortunately, I don't see myself listening to this album like that, as I feel like this entire album is a blend of one long song....with little of the diversity I love so much about him.
Is it good? Heck yeah...his talent alone makes it good. However, aside from Vice and Virtue and the Spoken Word, I feel little connection with the lyrics that seem to lack the worshipful, hit-the-heart, convict-me, make-me-think and reflect-on-my-relationship- with- God tunes that I have come to expect from JN.
