EDITORS’ NOTES

Australian singer/songwriter/guitarist and Wolfmother mastermind Andrew Stockdale indulges his longstanding love of all things heavy on the band’s fourth album. That includes the title track’s hard-rock triumph, complete with Queen-like harmonies, galloping guitar riffs, and piledriving drums that stop and start like whiplash. Stockdale’s signature rock-god wail can still shake the walls more than a decade after his debut album, while he stretches convincingly on the romantic acoustic balladry of “Pretty Peggy” and the driving pub rock of “Best of a Bad Situation”, which echoes early-’70s Rod Stewart.

They could've done better.

I very well may be in the minority here when i say that i think New Crown is much better than this. This album is o.k. the weakest link to this album is pretty peggy. Why, oh why, couldn't they have put some other track on here instead of Pretty Peggy? They must've had a much, much, much, better track that they recorded but neglected to put on here. There's just a lot more to like on New Crown than there is here. They're really on a down hill slide with this.
