iTunes Editors’ Notes

Islander’s muscular, doom-struck music harkens back to the nu-metal sounds that bands like P.O.D. and Deftones championed in the early '00s. The South Carolina quartet’s debut album, Violence & Destruction, is both aggressive and apocalyptic, unleashing visions of mayhem amid scalding riffage and hammering drums. Frontman Mikey Carvajal commands the spotlight with a blend of harsh and clean singing that suits his lyrics' emotionally volatile content. Andrey Murphy’s guitar work is both agile and brutal, fusing hardcore ferocity with a touch of funkiness (especially on “Coconut Dracula”). Violence & Destruction's songs definitely aren't feel-good anthems. Whether the tracks slowly seethe (“Pains,” “Kingdom”) or explode with manic energy (“Side Effects of Youth”), the band’s obsession with humanity’s self-destructive side is nearly constant. In tracks like “Counteract” and “Criminals” (the latter featuring P.O.D.’s Sonny Sandoval on vocals), Carvajal defies the madness of the world with froth-mouthed fury. A sense of redemption hovers over the chaos, heard most clearly in the title track's churning battle cries.

Customer Reviews

A great band and great record!

In a world where modern metal and hard rock has become soo blast beat oriented and contests of who has the heaviest guitar, this band stands out as a something that is to be the next big thing. Drawing influences from hardcore band Glassjaw and bands like the Deftones, you won’t be disappointed. Buy it Now

what a nice find.

As the title says was just looking around and came across this band, and have to say wow a gem hidden amonst alot of stale music witht the same sounds.
What ever there influance is or roar they are taking i hope they stay true.

Holy Crap!!!

Well, maybe not crap, but it certainly is Holy Awesome! Sounds like a mix between Sublime, POD, and Deftones. I just got an iTunes card for my birthday and decided to preorder the new WOVENWAR cd. Well I just heard two songs off this album after reading the HM Magazine review, and I see why they gave this a perfect rating! Well I just cancled my pre-order and bought this immediately! Last time I felt this way about a band was when I heard RED for the first time before they became big. Mark my words, these dudes are gunna be HUGE! BTW, the lyrics are on point, and real! God Bless you guy, ROCK ON!!!
